Whitney McLean, LPC-AT/S, ATR-BC

Originally from Ft. Worth, Whitney studied Fine Art at the University of Oklahoma where her focus was turned toward the practice of Art Therapy. She continued her education with a Master of Science in Art Therapy from Florida State University in 2009 and training through Fuller Theological Seminary. She is conversant in Spanish after living abroad in Spain and later worked for more than a year in Guatemala. She gained professional experience in serving adults with severe and profound disabilities as well as teen mothers & children before returning to Texas. Since 2014, Whitney has worked at The Art Station, where she works as a Full Time, Senior Therapist and Graduate Student Supervisor. The Art Station is a local non-profit and community based mental health clinic that provides art therapy services to children (6 & up), teens, adults, and families from across Tarrant County. Whitney also supervises clinicians working toward licensure and on the Board of Directors for Arts Fort Worth.

In client-centered sessions, Whitney employs an integrative approach combining a holistic understanding of the body, brain, mind, and spirit with practices of creative expression, sensory integration, and bilateral movement.  She engages in regular parent consultation and psycho-education, looking at symptoms & behaviors from a systemic perspective. Whitney works from a trauma-informed & strengths-based approach with a multi-cultural perspective; she values social justice & reconciliation. Above all, her hope is to create a safe and positive environment for clients to create meaning and find healing.
